Not all DEI programs are effective. While a one-hour program may help individuals become aware of their unconscious biases, it will not necessarily help them to counteract these biases. Reprogramming deeply ingrained unconscious biases requires repeated engagement and practice.

Dr. Amanda Felkey has designed a program called The Inclusion Habit that combines daily tasks, personal commitments, social accountability, and gamification to create more inclusive behaviors and enhance belonging.

The keys to this transformation are thinking slowly to avoid mistakes made by our unconscious biases. Daily activities or “micro-commitments” reinforce what participants have learned through a kinetic and emotional experience rather than a passive and merely intellectual one. Research has proven that small changes repeated over time can successfully create new thought patterns and behaviors.

Learn more about this program, the behavior change science behind it, and the results of other organizations that used it.
