Estate Planning 101
Wednesday, August 21, 2024, 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM EDT
Category: National Webinars

"Nothing is certain except death and taxes." Every year, more than 260 million Americans file their taxes by a deadline. However, when it comes to addressing what happens when we pass away, only one in three American adults have an estate plan that would allow them to leave the legacy they desire.

While many families know that having an estate plan is important, there are three main reasons why they don't take the necessary steps to get a plan in place: the cost of meeting with the attorney, the time it takes, or just the overall intimidation of thinking about what would happen to everything you've worked so hard for if you weren't here tomorrow.

During this session, Trust & Will's Michael Salazar will discuss why estate planning is important for every family — not just the ultra wealthy. He'll touch on the important post-death details an estate plan contains including:

  • nominating guardians for minor children,
  • naming someone to be responsible for administering your estate,
  • deciding how and to whom assets will be distributed, and
  • wishes for your final arrangements or ceremony
While death has generally been a taboo topic of discussion in the United States, Michael aims to lead with education to demonstrate that the only way to leave a lasting legacy is to plan for it.

Live captioning and a video recording will be available. This webinar is $29 for non-membersNot a member? Consider joining AWIS and register for FREE: www.awis.org/join

Meet the Speaker

Michael Salazar joined the Advisor Solutions team at Trust & Will in 2021 and has helped scale their network of financial advisors from under 1,000 to over 12,000 during that time. Michael works directly with financial planning firms to help advisors implement an easier, more affordable, and more accessible estate planning solution for their clients. During Michael's time with Trust & Will's Advisor team, they have formed exclusive partnerships with some of the biggest names in the industry, including LPL Financial, Northwestern Mutual, Charles Schwab, and more. As a direct to consumer company, Trust & Will has formed exclusive partnerships with AARP, USAA, Navy Federal Credit Union, and more. To date, Trust & Will has raised over $50 million in venture capital funding to build the easiest experience for an American family to build a comprehensive estate plan. This year, they were named to CNBC's Disruptor 50 List, recognizing them as one of the most innovative venture-backed companies disrupting their respective industries and driving change across the business world.

Michael studied business administration at Ohio State. After that, he enjoyed a brief stint as a data analyst before quickly realizing he desired a career that directly improves the lives of others. As a member of the Trust & Will team, his favorite part of his work is having the opportunity every day to help families like his own, who would have never set up an estate plan with an attorney. When he's not thinking or talking about death, Michael enjoys surfing, gardening, and attending Padres baseball games with his family.
