Thriving in the Leadership Job You Weren’t (Really) Trained For
Wednesday, November 19, 2025, 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM EST
Category: National Webinars

No matter where you are in your career or where you’re headed, leadership skills are essential. Yet, the path to gaining these skills isn’t always obvious when our training and jobs focus on science.

Join Jen Heemstra, PhD, for an opportunity to reflect on the leadership skills needed for a successful career in science and to explore strategies for growth in this area. Drawing from her book Labwork to Leadership: A Concise Guide to Thriving in the Science Job You Weren’t Trained For, Dr. Heemstra shares practical tips to:

- Create long and short-term goals that align with your values
- Build resilience by navigating both setbacks and successes with strength
- Lead with authenticity to build trust and influence without pretense
- Identify and empower those you mentor to strengthen their own leadership skills

Whether you are a student, senior leader in your organization, or anywhere in between, this workshop guides you through the process of generating actionable plans that you can implement immediately to better lead yourself and others.
